What is your favorite technological tool in your classroom?

"Clickers" also known as personal response systems, allow you to engage students in a whole group activity, effectively and anonymously. It is classroom participation at its best: fast paced, social and interactive. All the elements that students respond to! "Clickers" facilitate teachable moments because of the data that is instantly available on the student responses. No need to wait until the quizzes are graded to know what your students understand. A variety of learning styles and levels can be accommodated simultaneously. After the initial setup it is a win-win situation!

  1. Aside from Study Island (which my students absolutely loved!), one of my favorite things to use in the classroom was my document camera! We'd often do experiments in Science and it was awesome to be able to show steps under the camera as my students worked in groups. I also loved using United Streaming's video library to enhance lessons. There's something about being able to tie real video into a discussion - great for visual and audio learners!

  2. Actually I couldn't get through a day of teaching without my interactive board. I am able to do so much with my students and with less prep.

  3. I agree about Interactive Boards. The classroom comes alive and students respond to the energy level.

  4. United Streaming's video library makes exposing your students to real life so very easy. A fellow teacher use to play a movie to show a volcano eruption. United Streaming on demand feature allows instant access.

  5. The LCD projector has become pretty commonplace in the classroom, but it should never become unappreciated. I've taught with an LCD projector, overhead with transparencies, and old-fashion chalk on a black board. The LCD projector gave me so much more flexibility during class, I printed papers a lot less, I could make last minute changes to lessons, and I could take advantage of other technology, like online videos and using Study Island for whole- group instruction.

  6. Clcikers are a great way to have instant access to responses from students on exams. I could create a five question assessment as a "wake-up" to students during a lecture or lesson, and be able to tell exactly how much of the information they were processing at that time.

  7. I had my EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students listen to news clips on CNN's international website and quizzed them about the clips afterwards. It was a great way for them to practice their listening and comprehension skills (and hear English spoken with different accents!)

  9. I use Study Island and clickers almost on a daily basis with my students with disabilities in an 8th grade language arts class. The students are engaged by using them and I can tell instantly who is getting what skills and who is not. I can't imagine teaching without clickers and Study Island. :)
